From left, Dr. Ron Fujimoto, Darren Shimanuki, Shelly Lauer and Cheryl Tennberg, all of the Hawai‘i Helth Systems Corporation, and Jen Chahanovich and Kent Kikuchi of Wilcox Medical Center, prepare to move COVID-19 vaccines to the HHSC Kaua‘i Region hospitals, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital in Kapa‘a and Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea.

Chris Machorek, center, general manager of the Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort in Waipouli, leads his hotel ‘ohana in applauding the efforts of the Hawai‘i National Guard. Several guardsmen have been staying at the Waipouli property, effectively helping to keep the resort open.

Mahalo, Hawai‘i National Guard, for all your efforts at keeping Kaua‘i safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Yes, Chris Machorek and his Sheraton Kaua‘i Coconut Beach Resort in Waipouli (Jaye Gayagas Youn said “We never close”), we agree. And, the cookies by chef Lucas Sauter and his culinary team were outstanding.

Mahalo, too, to Keiko Napier, for all the contributions to the Zonta Christmas Fund, Toys For Tots and more. Keiko had time to break away from Sunday brunch at her Japanese Grandma restaurant in Hanapepe to present her contribution to Cyndi Ayonon (she said the Beat Athletica pop-up Saturday was a blast) and Edie Ignacio Neumiller to launch the matching funds up to $5,000 from an anonymous donor. You can double your contribution through Christmas. Just call Cyndi.

Kudos to Roy Nishida (the East Kaua‘i Lions Club contributed $650 to Toys For Tots and $350 to the type 1 diabetes cause), who was among the Lions (Memory Robinson said her offices in the former Dr. Kanna space in Waimea is decorated for Christmas, too) showing up Monday to help prepare for the Mahalo Kaua‘i food distribution.

There are just two days left before Christmas. Are you excited yet?
