We long to get back to normal

Volleyball on the Westside is an important thing to many people. But this year many things have changed, mostly because of something we all know called COVID-19.

COVID has impacted so many lives. Schooling is online now, and sports are being shut down. Sports at Waimea High School on the Westside are so important and are looked forward to by many kids and adults. Specifically, I’m talking about the Waimea High volleyball team and why it has impacted the lives of students here, and even myself.

I myself have been playing volleyball for many years, and have made the JV team two years in a row. I am now a junior in this school and was working hard to make the varsity one day. This year could have been my chance.

But, unfortunately, this opportunity was taken away by COVID. It’s sad to think that our precious years of playing high-school sports are being taken away from kids who work very hard to get positions on the court or field and who also gain opportunities from playing sports, like getting recognized or college scholarships.

We can’t get back the time missed and memories lost during COVID, but we can sure make new ones. COVID has taken away a lot of opportunities from many people, and it’s time we change that. If we follow the procedures and rules, we can maybe eventually diminish this virus and get things back to normal.

The kids can enjoy sports once again and we can come back to school and be glad to see our friends and family. We won’t need to be scared just to go to the grocery store, and adults and parents won’t be suffering and struggling to support their families and loved ones. Stay safe, everyone.!

Trump, supporters should concede

I know I am not smart, perhaps mediocre, but I cannot seem to understand why Trump and the Republicans are so bullheaded and will not and cannot accept the fact that Biden and Harris were voted to become the next president and vice president of the United States. Both won the popular votes of over four million oeople, and won 279-plus of the electoral votes, too. Legally.

But when Putin and the Russians interfered with the 2016 election and gave Trump the presidency, it was all right. Now, legal, as I was born a Filipino, Trump is not conceding, and he and the Republicans are yelling “foul,” even if they have no evidence to declare their claims. They’ve been asked for proof that the election was rigged, illegal and a fraud, but they cannot seem to produced anything.

The picture is not right here. I seem to be missing something, or am so ignorant and uninformed and just don’t simply understand why Trump and the Republicans can bring things like these up and get away with it. I feel that this country is corrupted under the leadership of Trumpism.

What’s wrong with you Republicans? You are not that naive or stupid-thinking that Trump saying all these negativities are true? I know no one, especially Trump, didn’t want to lose, and thought he would be elected for the second term. What, is he kidding? And to think that he had the guts and audacity to come out on election night and declare victory. That’s a shame.

Will someone explain to me what is happening here?

Ray Domingo, Lihu‘e

    Mr. Domingo,
Your are a very smart person. This president cares for no one but himself. He is wrecking our country and will drag it down. He even suggested that he should be allowed a 3rd term. He continues to polarize our great country and does not care if he drives it into the ground. He is certainly doing the work of his buddy Putin…weaken our democracy.

Priceless Q-uestion, from Ray, “whats wrong with you republicans?” Further, Ray insinuating people are “Naive and stupid-thinking”. Maybe a diagnostic like ‘Narcissistic Personality Disorder’ should be penned instead, as there are millions of these kinds throughout HKGA that are on the politicojudiciomilitarodemorepubs fenceline that are blinded by the CCP, Wuhan, and Fentanyl side of this wicked world. Best practice GITMO+tribunal=Rabbit Hole fodder transported via FEMA prison barges and Free last supper.

It’s actually pretty simple, Ray. A large portion of Republicans/conservatives have been brain-washed by the snake oil salesman occupying the White House and are incapable of independent thought or objective reasoning. They are willing to accept as gospel whatever is uttered by the Messiah-in-Chief. He is, after all, their savior.

The problem with the election outcome is not who won or lost. It’s a matter of trust. We need a system, and people, that can be trusted now more than ever. There have been far too many incidents of discarded ballots, ballots set on fire in a mailbox, vote counters showing up with ballots in unofficial containers, authorized observers being blocked from viewing the counters, and more. Yes, some are allegations. But all need to be investigated for the sake of our election to keep its trust. Add in a bias media on both sides, and it’s no surprise we are where we are now. Trust is the ongoing problem with the systems and candidates. Wouldn’t it be nice to trust someone in addition to God?

Back when I was a trial lawyer for 34 years, I learned quickly that you can allege anything but when you get before a judge, you better put up or shut up, or face a tongue lashing and maybe even sanctions. I learned that most Americans hate frivolous lawsuits. Most lawyers hate frivolous lawsuits as well; it gives lawyers a bad name and makes it more difficult to convince juries when you present a legitimate lawsuit deserving of justice. However, there are plenty of lawyers and large law firms who will pursue these frivolous lawsuits as long as they are getting paid $500 and hour or so. To me, this is unconscionable. The facts are that Trump’s lawsuits are frivolous. They are a part of a PR campaign, not serious lawsuits. It’s time for Trump and his enablers to think about the good of our country and not themselves. Trump, try and do the right thing for once in your life.

I appreciate your comment. But where are the facts that the lawsuits are frivolous, or is that just another allegation? You helped validate my concern about what is really the truth versus fiction.

        1. james November 18, 2020 7:45 am Reply

The facts speak for themselves: every one of the lawsuits has been thrown out of court except one minor one in Pennsylvania which had no impact on the vote. If you have any information that any of these frivolous lawsuit have succeeded I would love to learn about them. When a lawsuit is thrown out of court, it means, factually, that it has no validity and is therefore frivolous.

It’s pretty simple to explain Ray. Cheeto Benito says something outrageous and simply untrue, and his followers parrot what he and his synchophants say with no hesitation or thought to do a simple two minute web search to find out if Mango Mussolini is lying as usual.

The Toronto Star has independently documented and fact checked over 12K statements where it was verified that the Tangerine Tyrant straight up lied, but to call out his lies is anathema to the sad, pathetic cult of personality that is Trumpism.

Washington would be rolling in his grave to see what the Rs have done to our democracy.

I also would like to add that Orange Orangatang supporters rallying in front of KG nearly two weeks after the election is the height of hilarity.

They are about as effective as Drumpf’s COVID containment plan, with an argument, carrying as much substance as Drumpf’s ACA replacement plan.

Thank you all for the lack of critical thinking and for the entertainment.

As the right continues to eat itself- cultists going after the propaganda platform FOX (entertainment masquerading as a news channel) – all of non-crazy society is laughing at you, the same way that we laugh at Antivaxxers and Flat Earthers.

Ray; You are expecting a logical response from fanatics who don’t care about facts or the truth. They only care about what makes them feel good about themselves. As someone once said, “There’s a sucker born every minute” and Trump capitalized on this, and tells these suckers what they want to hear, truth be damned. It’s not too different from trying to convince an Islamic fanatic that their God is not the only God. These idiots are not going away anytime soon. People believe what they want to believe.

Morning Ray, you mean that for the highest office in the United States, you believe because you trail by a few legal votes cast, you must give up and concede? Just like the 10 run rule in Little League, huh.

Ray Domingo, you are one of my favorites with your common sense comments. We all (dems) have wondered why trump’s followers agree with his lies about almost every subject. Now with this factless claim that the election was stolen, many of his supporters have been interviewed and it seems they actually believe it. I’m afraid they might actually believe trump’s other lies as well, even the ones that are debunked but which trump repeats ad nauseum.

Trump serves himself and the wealth holders so I wonder at the throngs who are not in that category who support his continued fight to eliminate the ACA which is before the SCOTUS right now, as well as his and the elected GOP’s other goals of eliminating Medicare and Social Security which many of trump’s supporters also depend on or will at retirement.

Ray, here’s a link for you explaining why Trump & the Republicans are stretching this out. If a state fails to certify the votes by a certain date, then the executive of that state can hand-pick their electors who can then vote the way they want, regardless of how their state voted. It’s as anti-American as it gets & every American should read this article. Pass it on!

Sure Ray, I can explain what is happening here. Being a registered independent, I am definitely not a Trump supporter. Yet I sat here in 2016 and watched as certain people would not accept the vote, called Trump an “illegitimate president”, “not my president” etc. That started the whole divisiveness in this country that is still present today. After refusing to come together as a country in 2016 do you really expect “the other side” to do that now????? If so you are living in la la land. This country will never be the same after what happened in 2016.

    1. Pete Antonson November 17, 2020 1:46 am Reply

Doug, you need to get out that dadgummed History book and look up what Newt Gingrich himself called the “”Politics of Destruction.” I n 1989, he became a Republc Party leader by destroying House Speaker Wright with accusations and no evidence. Clinton, and most Democrats, refused to use these techniques in kind, instead , they used the rapid denial. Newt got a House majority and Speakership in 1996. He taught Republics to never say Democratic Policy; but always Radical Left Wing Democratic Policy. 2016 was simply a generational Republic manifestation of Newt speech. We just never had a President issuing false accusations without evidence before. But…if you listened to Limbaugh every day, by 2016, it was as natural as cream in your coffee.

      1. Doug November 18, 2020 9:42 am Reply

Sorry Pete but there has NEVER been such open animosity in this country prior to Trump beating Clinton in 2016. And to this day I don’t believe she ever admitted defeat, when listening to her speak it is always something else (the Russians) that beat her, not Trump.

Ray, First let me say neither candidate impresses me. The law states that the election is not official until it is certified by all the states, currently there are still states counting and one is recounting leaving them unable to certify the results. The states on their own are required to make sure there is fraud involved. Currently it is some of the media who have declared the winner, whether this proves to be true or not it is not official. Biden himself stated in the first debate when asked that he would wait for the election to be certified before declaring victory, he has not done that. Should the situation here have been reversed Biden was prepared to contest the election and had assembled a group of 100 plus lawyers for this possibility.
This election has been unlike others before it due to the massive increase in mail-in voting which has presented numerous questions. it should also be noted that the actual margin of victory in the states that are of consequence in the electoral college is extremeley small. There are enough anomalies in this election process to warrant some investigation, this may or may not alter the outcome. I think it is important address these anomalies to keep everyones faith in the election process intact. This shouldn’t take long if there is nothing to find, so a little patience for integrity’s sake seems wise. Perhaps if Biden wants to project unification he should join in the investigation.
Your claim of Putin and Russia interfering in the 2016 election was investigated for over 2 years and cost millions of dollars and was dismissed. The basis for that claim was provided by the Democratic party’s Presidential campaign. If you still believe in that why wouldn’t you believe they are not involved in this election? What about China, don’t they have a reason? How about big tech? The liberal media? Democratic party? The Democrats have in fact have never accepted the 2016 results.
Let the process play out, that’s what it’s for. People screaming for proof of the allegations should wait and see, it’s not that simple, it took two plus years to investigate the Russian collusion claims. Trump should and I believe will concede once it becomes clear that any investigations will not alter the results and the states all certify the results. I’m sure if Biden was in Trump’s position he would be doing the exact same thing. It’s politics and it’s a dirty game. Just look at the tremendous amount of money spent on this by both sides and ask yourself why.

    Dear Ray

I hate to concur but apparently you are not smart. If you would tune in Fox or any number of “conservative” news outlets, you could be educated as to why Trump has not yet conceded. News agencies do not elect presidents, the voters do. States have not yet certified their elections, recounts on going on in Georgia and other places, lawsuits have yet to be settled. And the electoral college has not yet met, until then we do not have a “president-elect” in spite of what you hear in the fake news. In 2000 it took the courts 27 days to figure out who won the election in Florida that determined the president-elect at that time, so sit back, chill and be patient. We will eventually have a president-elect, right now we do not.

It’s called freedom of speech Ray. Both sides will have a say, and only then can it be settled.

“Election officials across the country insist as of today there is no evidence of any widespread fraud affecting the outcome of the presidential election, that our precious democracy was not tampered with and that such baseless and false claims are an insult to the thousands of election officials and workers across the country who we have seen dedicating themselves 24/7 to ensure a fair and free election for all of us,”

Anyone still holding out hope that Trump will be re-elected need to get real. There was no fraud, nor has he been able to produce any evidence of such. There was however an overwhelming number of mail in ballots due to the pandemic. Trump ‘thought’ he had it in bag because he encouraged his supporters to vote in public, whereas Democrats (most of whom take this pandemic seriously) mailed in their votes. In person votes were counted first, thus his premature assumption he was re-elected. Now he’s acting like a spoiled toddler in a sandbox, throwing sand in everyone’s face because he can’t have the biggest shovel.
*It’s interesting to note that Trumps staunch supporter, Louis DeJoy, attempted to remove mailboxes and sorting machines across 49 States, which would have dramatically interfered with mail in ballots – just 12 weeks before the election!
It’s time for all of you to acknowledge that Biden IS the new President. The Country is a mess with skyrocketing COVID cases, overwhelmed hospitals and medical professionals, high unemployment, businesses struggling, etc. It’s time now to accept the new administration, and start working together to get things back on track. At least we know Biden has 8 years of experience doing just that beside former President Obama after the Bush recession. Suck it up Trumpsters because in quoting Trump regarding COVID deaths “it is what it is.” He’s pau.
