We long to get back to normal
Volleyball on the Westside is an important thing to many people. But this year many things have changed, mostly because of something we all know called COVID-19.
COVID has impacted so many lives. Schooling is online now, and sports are being shut down. Sports at Waimea High School on the Westside are so important and are looked forward to by many kids and adults. Specifically, I’m talking about the Waimea High volleyball team and why it has impacted the lives of students here, and even myself.
I myself have been playing volleyball for many years, and have made the JV team two years in a row. I am now a junior in this school and was working hard to make the varsity one day. This year could have been my chance.
But, unfortunately, this opportunity was taken away by COVID. It’s sad to think that our precious years of playing high-school sports are being taken away from kids who work very hard to get positions on the court or field and who also gain opportunities from playing sports, like getting recognized or college scholarships.
We can’t get back the time missed and memories lost during COVID, but we can sure make new ones. COVID has taken away a lot of opportunities from many people, and it’s time we change that. If we follow the procedures and rules, we can maybe eventually diminish this virus and get things back to normal.
The kids can enjoy sports once again and we can come back to school and be glad to see our friends and family. We won’t need to be scared just to go to the grocery store, and adults and parents won’t be suffering and struggling to support their families and loved ones. Stay safe, everyone.!

Trump, supporters should concede
I know I am not smart, perhaps mediocre, but I cannot seem to understand why Trump and the Republicans are so bullheaded and will not and cannot accept the fact that Biden and Harris were voted to become the next president and vice president of the United States. Both won the popular votes of over four million oeople, and won 279-plus of the electoral votes, too. Legally.
But when Putin and the Russians interfered with the 2016 election and gave Trump the presidency, it was all right. Now, legal, as I was born a Filipino, Trump is not conceding, and he and the Republicans are yelling “foul,” even if they have no evidence to declare their claims. They’ve been asked for proof that the election was rigged, illegal and a fraud, but they cannot seem to produced anything.
The picture is not right here. I seem to be missing something, or am so ignorant and uninformed and just don’t simply understand why Trump and the Republicans can bring things like these up and get away with it. I feel that this country is corrupted under the leadership of Trumpism.
What’s wrong with you Republicans? You are not that naive or stupid-thinking that Trump saying all these negativities are true? I know no one, especially Trump, didn’t want to lose, and thought he would be elected for the second term. What, is he kidding? And to think that he had the guts and audacity to come out on election night and declare victory. That’s a shame.
Will someone explain to me what is happening here?
