Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, The Mokihana Club was unable to organize fundraising events.
Money from the club was made available to continue helping 15 students with their education expenses. They are Brianne Ellis, Lauren Jordan, Kelsey Molina, Therese Nakamura, Jae Won Perez, Jamie Yadao, Shelby Banach, Oriana Dias, Tatsiana Dashkevich, Zailea Lawrence-White, James Mehling, Cieralyne Okamoto, Ashley Posada, John Daryll Santiago and Sage Watanabe.
The Mokihana Club is Hawai‘i’s longest-running women’s service organization. Starting in 1905, the club founders, including Elsie and Mabel Wilcox, were public-health advocates. They were instrumental in bringing dental care and general health care to the island’s school children. Health care has been a priority for the organization ever since.
In 2003, when the Mokihana Club recognized a critical, nationwide shortage of nurses, the members established a scholarship in partnership with the KCC nursing education program. To date, a total of $112,000 in scholarships have been awarded to honor and support students who choose this service career.
