PUHI — The Kaua‘i Humane Society received a $30,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to help keep more pets in loving homes and out of the shelter.
The impact of COVID-19 has reached people all across the world. Kaua‘i has been no exception, with many people facing uncertainty and struggling to make ends meet.
KHS is committed to ensuring that financial hardship does not result in the loss of pets in the community. Now more than ever, families need the comfort of four-legged friends.
With this grant, the KHS will help pets and their families impacted by COVID-19 by providing medical care, food and essential supplies to ensure no one has to surrender their pets because they cannot afford to care for them.
The KHS team has gone into the community, asking pet owners what they need in order to maintain ownership of dogs and cats. With this PetSmart Charities grant, the KHS can successfully deliver these services and goods to families in need.
“We are incredibly grateful to PetSmart Charities for their continued support of our community,” KHS Executive Director Dr. Mirah Horowitz said in a press release. “Our pets are family members, and we want to be sure no family is torn apart by the economic impact of COVID-19.”
Since 1994, through its partnership with nearly 4,000 humane societies, societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals and pet-rescue organizations across North America, PetSmart Charities has helped more than 9.3 million pets find loving homes via its in-store adoption program in over 1,600 PetSmart stores.
The leading funder of animal welfare has also donated nearly $430 million to improve access to veterinary care, to positively impact communities, to connect people and pets and to help preserve families through initiatives like this with KHS.
