I’ll pass on the vaccine

People are awaiting the arrival of a vaccine to control the COVOD-19 pandemic. Aside from the fact that COVID-19 may not have been accurately isolated as a disease-causing virus, here are a few of the worst vaccine fillers: aborted human fetal tissue, bovine calf serum, chick embryo, dog kidney, duck egg, fetal bovine serum, horse blood, human diploid cells, monkey kidney, pig blood, porcine pancreatic hydrolysate, rabbit brain, washed sheep red blood cells.

Although all may not be included in the vaccine, it certainly is an eye-opener as to what may be in there. In addition, agents which can enter the host cells (that’s you) and modify RNA and DNA may be included.

Yikes. I think I will pass.

Molly Jones, Kealia

Nature, application of reopening rules bother visitor

Preamble: First, I love Kaua‘i and I would never do anything to jeopardize the people or the land. I’ve been coming here two to three times a year for the past 15 years. Second, if anyone should have been dead from COVID-19 by now, it’s me.

I am a health-care worker in New York (commuting on public transportation from New Jersey), and I have been working 60 to 80 hours a week since the start of the pandemic.

I was on Kaua‘i for the COVID-19 outbreak in March. I traveled home on an empty airplane to New York, and I am due to arrive back on Kaua‘i Oct. 1.

At work, I am tested weekly for COVID-19, and have to fill out a COVID-19 HealthCheck each day before going to work. The daily precautions I take, although mandated, are mostly common sense: masks, distancing and clean hands have kept me safe throughout.

Currently, coming in on Oct. 1 with a negative test, I’ll have to quarantine until the 15th, and then I’ll be “SAFE.” If I arrive on Oct. 15 with a negative test, I’d be free to come and go as I please. Why not change plans? I’ve made a commitment to dog-sit starting on Oct. 1, and I will honor it, quarantining with Sadie for two of my three weeks on the island is still pretty great. Unfortunately (and not meaning to boast), my quarantining will keep several thousand dollars out of the local economy.

My point? I’m sure I had one when I started writing.

The arbitrary nature and application of the rules are what bother me the most. The people who make them are not affected by them. I’ve sent a couple of emails about an exemption, or a modified quarantine, but I doubt they were even read before being dismissed.

Richard Gontarek, Woodbridge, New Jersey

Except for Egg Protein, to grow enough of the virus or bacteria to make the vaccine, none of these ingredients listed are in vaccines. I’ve been waiting for this. Antivaxxers are like a Cult. No way we weren’t going to hear from them!

You missed your calling, Molly. Since you’re so full of . . . knowledge . . . maybe you should consider setting up a little stand next to the bike path — you know, like Lucy in the Peanuts cartoon? Then you could impart your wisdom to everyone as they ride or stroll by. It could be a real moneymaker for you!

It’s so irresponsible for this paper to continue to print these letters full of misinformation – usually sent in by the same handful of people. There’s literally not a single fact in this newest letter from Molly – just like her last ones. But, great way to promote conspiracies! Such a slap in the face to the health care workers and first responders who keep us safe. There’s no rabbit brains in the vaccine ok? How many people will follow the advice they read here and not get a vaccine against the worst pandemic in modern history all because of the misinformation you printed?

The October 15th date for Hawaii travel without mandatory quarantine is so that the state has time to streamline the accurate and fluid system required for pre-testing. If you were coming here to work in your health care position for a time, an exemption would be made for you. Dog sitting isn’t essential…no matter how many times a year you’re used to visiting.

If you love Kauai, sometimes you need to just say away.

RE: “The arbitrary nature and application of the rules are what bother me the most. The people who make them are not affected by them.”

      Really? 9/11/2020:
“Lt. Gov. Dr. Josh Green, who has helped lead the state’s fight against COVID-19, tested positive for coronavirus Friday night. Green’s best guess is he caught it from the member of his security detail, whose wife also tested positive. He said he might not have been tested had I not found out they tested positive”

He was tested within the 72 hr requirement, then flew to the BI to work in their ER for a few days. While driving from the Airport to the hospital he was in the car with 4 others. They stopped for coffee, took their masks off to drink it, and wham. Retest = positive.

Dr. Green is a classic example as to why ONE test is simply not enough. Had the others not shown symptoms later that week (which instigated their tests) he wouldn’t have had another test. You’ll be traveling through Airports, sitting in close proximately to others on a plane for 9+ hours, and feel you’re entitled to an exemption to dog sit? SMH.
And, it’s irrelevant how many times you’ve traveled here in the past, nor how much you might or might not spend, you’re no different than anyone else who shouldn’t be coming here right now – without the requirement of a 2nd test. I hope I’m wrong, but IMO this ‘one test’ plan will be an epic fail for Hawai’i.

      MOLLY: Here’s the real “eye-openers”
Polio, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, Rubella, HIB (Haemophilus influenzae type B), Measles, Whooping Cough (Pertussis), Pneumococcal Disease, Rotavirus, Mumps, Chickenpox, Meningococcal, HPV, Influenza, and Diphtheria.

Sorry all you paranoid sheeples…there is NO escaping exposure to Covid-19. EVERYONE will eventually get exposed and some will get sicker than others and some won’t get sick at all and some will die. Just because you have staved off the pandemic for now, means nothing. As soon as you re-open and the tourists start coming in…pau hana, brah. Just accept it and move on. So many of you sound like idiots. Guaran-ball-bearin Hawaii is soon to be some upcoming week’s covid hotspot on the globe. This isn’t the kind of thing you can dodge…because of being in the middle of da ocean, you have delayed the INEVITABLE. Just open up Kauai and get it over with already, you only giving yourself PTSD over this. The freakin response has done more damage to the people of Earth than the pandemic itself.

We shouldn’t scoff completely at the vaccine, those who risk taking it after its warp speed production skipping safety measures and what not, but the upside is that it will be treated like any other antigen, invader of our bodies, and those who survive taking the direct shot into their body of this man made disease called a vaccine, the reality is those people talkfest that chance will in fact develop immunity, even if only some immunity to the VACCINE, But they will not develop immunity to the Covid19 virus, because the vaccine will not be bio-identical enough to fool the immune system into making Covid19 virus bio-identical antibodies.

Good try, but no cigar, might as well face the music and spend the time reversing the diseases processes of the chronic end of life diseases and the use of Prescription Drugs.

After all god lives here too,
