Heeding warnings, Gulf Coast residents flee coming hurricane

ENNIS, Texas — Thousands of Gulf Coast residents fled inland from rapidly intensifying Hurricane Laura as hotels and shelters filled quickly, exacerbating the struggles of evacuees who had already lost jobs in the coronavirus pandemic.
