Kudos to the Po‘ipu hotel General Manager Dan King for coordinating the third distribution of food for the colleagues, and mahalo to Kelvin Moniz and the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank for joining the hotel staff in the effort as a mahalo for the Hyatt’s support in the food drives and the excess food donated after the resort’s closure from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cynthia Chiang is getting excited about the virtual Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple Senshuji bon dance that will air on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 5 p.m. Gerald Hirata said the event is a fundraiser for the Hanapepe temple, and got help from Ann Hashisaka of Kaua‘i Kookie, who will supply manju as dessert for the bento lunch that will be available as a drive-thru pickup.
Ann said Laura Kawamura (she was the right hand during the Souper Sunday campaign) designed that multi-faceted face masks from one of the church’s bon dance towels, and Blanche Suga and her sister Kay Hill (she’s the president of the West Kaua‘i Lions Club) spearheaded the sewing. And, no, the West Kaua‘i Lions won’t be doing the flying saucers. Japanese Grandma Keiki Napier will be doing them as a drive-thru pickup as a fundraiser, too.
For those wishing to help The Salvation Army Stuff the Bus back-to-school supplies drive, the fancy bus is still parked at Walmart until this afternoon.
RoseAnne Jones and the Kaua‘i Society of Artists and American Association of University Women open their unique historical exhibit on women leaders starting Monday at noon to 4 p.m. (good reason to stop by Oki’s Box Lunches &Diner for some banana pancakes).
