KAUMAKANI – Kaua‘i firefighters and a landowner extinguished a 15-acre brush fire that broke out in Kaumakani on Tuesday afternoon.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
At approximately 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, personnel from the Waimea and Hanapepe fire stations, Rescue 3, Air 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief were dispatched to a brush fire near shore on the west end of Kaumakani.
When firefighters arrived on scene at approximately 5:40 p.m., they were greeted by security members of the Robinson family who informed fire crews that the landowner had assets responding to the brush fire.
The landowner assisted with two water tenders, two dozers, one backhoe, and 15 personnel. Truck 6 arrived first on scene and attacked the fire on the east flank. Air 1 arrived on scene at approximately 5:45 p.m. and provided air drops on the north face of the fire. Truck 7 attacked the fire from the north and monitored the fire on the west side of the perimeter to ensure the blaze didn’t threaten structures. Once the northern end of the fire was under control, Air 1 proceeded to air drop water on the south-end area of the fire.
At 6:30 p.m., the fire was under control, and crews cleared the scene at approximately 7:05 p.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
