HANAPEPE — Waimea High graduate Leslie Uri is recipient of a $1,000 scholarship provided by the West Kaua‘i Lions Club recently.
The announcement by scholarship chairperson Kay Hill was done during the most recent video club meeting that was attended digitally by Uri, one of the school’s Class of 2020 valedictorians. The award was mailed to Uri.
“Under the leadership of President Lion Basilio Fuertes, the West Kaua‘i Lions Club has performed many community-service projects prior to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Lion Eric Nordmeier, a Waimea High alumnus. “During the pandemic, the club continues with serving our communities while in compliance with social distancing and other federal, state and county directives.”
People interested in serving the community are invited to find out more about what the West Kaua‘i Lions do. Fuertes, who will be the incoming membership chairperson, has information on numerous noteworthy service projects performed by the club.
