LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Senior Softball practices have been underway since the league received the green light from the County of Kaua‘i to return to the fields following the parks’ closure and play suspended due to COVID-19 concerns about health and safety.
According to a schedule obtained from one of the league players, play is anticipated to resume, Saturday with five more weekends remaining in the league’s first round. The state tournament was scheduled to be hosted on Kaua‘i, but that event was cancelled due to the pandemic. Instead, the league intends to complete the second round that starts on July 25 and runs each weekend through October 10.
Playing under health and safety guidelines, including social distancing and face masks, for players and spectators established by the National Senior Softball Association, the state’s Department of Health, the County of Kaua‘i, and the Centers for Disease Control, Kaua‘i Senior Softball is looking at seven games being played at two fields — Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e — with the first contests rolling from 9 a.m.
Da Kruzers will host West Kaua‘i in the 9 a.m. opener at Kapa‘a, followed by the Keonimana Gents hosting the Rookies at 10:15 a.m. The Islanders will host the EK Legends in the 11:30 a.m. contest.
The Aloha Kia Lihu‘e A’s will host the Hanamaulu Hillsiders in the 9 a.m. opener at the Isenberg Park in Lihue, followed by Kawaihau hosting Barteks at 10:15 a.m. ‘Ohana will host the ‘Ohana Rebels in the 11:30 a.m. showdown, and Kuku’s Aces will close the day by hosting Solid Steel in a 12:45 p.m. contest.
