LIHU‘E — The second annual marine debris art show at the Kaua‘i Society of Artists gallery in Kukui Grove Center has been reinstated and is now accepting submissions for the exhibit.
The art show, entitled “Washed Up-2020”, brings together conservationists and artists to bring attention to the issues of marine debris, and to display the creativity of the artists themselves. It’s a show sponsored both by KSA and Surfrider Foundation Kaua‘i Chapter.
Artwork must be created from at least 50% man-made marine debris and all materials must be cleaned properly — soaked in vinegar/water mixture for at least one day. Work shown in a previous KSA show will not be accepted.
KSA Board of Directors said in an announcement about the show opening that the reinstatement is due to government officials lifting some of the COVID-19 restrictions on Kaua‘i.
Entry day for the second annual “Washed Up” show is Saturday, May 30, from noon to 4 p.m.
On that day, all artists must wear face masks and observe social distancing requirements or they will be disqualified from entering the Show. Volunteers will wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant after each interaction with the public.
The number of artists bringing artwork into KSA on Entry Day will be limited to three artists at a time (Social Distancing). Please choose a drop off time that is convenient for you between noon and 3:30 p.m. and inform KSA of your choice prior to arrival.
If more than three artists arrive at KSA at one time, artists must wait-in-line outside of the door.
Due to social distancing restrictions, there is no opening reception for this art show, and KSA plans to hold shorter exhibition hours for the show.
