Gerard Cosmas Silva
Gerard Cosmas Silva, husband of Georgia (Planas) Silva of Kalaheo, passed away peacefully at their home, on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at the age of 64, after years of suffering from complications due to MS.
He was born to Antone G. and Dorothy (Bukoski) Silva Jr. on Sept. 27, 1955, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital along with his twin brother Bernard Damian Silva.
He is preceded in death by parents Antone G. and Dorothy (Bukoski) Silva Jr.; twin brother Bernard Silva; nephews, Michael Silva, Alex Silva; niece baby Hazel Rose Holmberg-Silva; mother-in-law Gregoria Planas; brother-in-law Leroy Silva.
With each of their passings, his heart broke, but in spite of his sorrows and illness, his great sense of humor flourished, and his faith in God grew. Gerard graduated from Kauai High School, worked in the hotel industry at the Waiohai Hotel and Kiahuna Plantation. He had a great love for his antique cars, his garden for which he often worked in, and music, in which he played the harmonica, trombone and tuba.
He is survived by his faith-filled wife Georgia (Planas) Silva of Kalaheo; his loving children, Jenny and her husband (Patrick Nakagawa Jr.) of Honolulu, Gabriel Silva of Seattle, Dorothy Silva and her husband (Jean-Paul Junod) of California, Antone Silva of Honolulu; and his grandchildren, Owen, Kazuya, and Sen Maria.
He is also survived by his siblings, Antoinette (Abel) Martinez of California, Sandra Silva of Colorado, Gregory Silva of New Mexico; father-in-law Gregorio (Aurora) Planas of Kaumakani; brother-in-laws, Leslie Planas, Gregory Planas, Jared Planas; sister-in-law Bridget Evans; also various nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Rosary from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. Visitation with the family from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Mass at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at the Holy Cross Catholic Church Cemetery. Family suggests causal attire.

Wallace F. Moura
Wallace F. Moura, 96, of Eleele, passed away on Feb. 16, 2020. He was born in Eleele on March 12, 1923, and was the factory superintendent of McBryde Sugar.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Frances Moura Jr.; brother Clarence Moura; sister Angela Tavares.
He is survived by his wife Violet Reis Moura; daughter Joan Moura; sons, Gary (Lyssa) and Robert (Paige) Moura; grandchildren, Robin (Kahi) Rita, Ryan (Whitney) Moura, Aryn, Ethan, Shayla and Evan Moura; three-great grandchildren; sister Frances Freitas; brother Albert (Dorothy) Moura; cousin Frances Gouveia Hanlin; brother-in-laws, Thomas, Alfred, and Harry Reis; sister-in-law Janet Martin Reis; nieces, Bernie Soto and Shirley (Benny) Laguatan; nephews, John (Nina) Medeiros and Tommy Tavares; among numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins and his beloved dog Teddy.
His celebration of life is Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Sacred Heart Church in Eleele, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. There will be a burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Edward aka ‘Sonny or Lefty’ Remata
Edward aka “Sonny or Lefty” Remata, passed away on March 3, 2020, at the age of 87. He was born on June 20, 1932, in Waimea and was a retired field worker/truck driver for Gay & Robinson Sugar Plantation.
He was preceded in death by parents Vicenta (Omakanim) and Crisanto Remata; daughter Joan; sibling Sister Florence Remata.
He is survived by wife Bernandita “Berna” Remata; daughter Natalie (Remata) Masaveg of Kalaheo; son Dean (Sandi) Remata of Makaweli; grandchildren, Nicholas Reyes, Traci Reyes, Jamieson Lampitoc, Cliff Remata of Mililani, Kaylene (Remata) Kajioka of Ewa Beach, Kacie Remata of Mililani and Karli Remata of Wahiawa; great grandchildren, Lansen and Braeden Reyes, Byanca and Brenton Cantrell of Ewa Beach; brothers, David (Mercy) Remata Sr., Alfredo “Doric” Remata, Richard “Boy” Remata, Stanley “Stan” (Norma) Remata of Pearl City, Wilfred “Willie” Remata of California, Lawrence “Larry” Remata of California, Patrick “Pat” Remata of California; sisters, Mildred “Inday” Olores, Elizabeth “Elisie” (Pat) Aquino, Vivian (Alvis) Nonaka; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020, with family visitation from 8 to 10 a.m. at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, with services to follow.
William ‘Bill’ Keaweoluna Enoka Jr.
William “Bill” Keaweoluna Enoka Jr., 78, of Kapa‘a passed away on O‘ahu on Feb. 22, 2020. He was born in Honolulu on Nov. 24, 1941, and retired as a fire captain with County of Kaua‘i, he was also a lieutenant colonel with the Civil Air Patrol, served in the Air National Guard and a Flight Instructor at Dillingham Air Field.
Preceded in death by his parents William Keaweoluna Enoka Sr. and Julia Ah Fu Enoka; sister Ehulani Enoka Lum; brother George Keaweoluna Enoka.
Bill is survived by his wife Monica Lizama Enoka; son William Joseph (Dana) Enoka; daughter Angie Moana Marie Enoka; granddaughter Erin Enoka; brother Theodore Keaweoluna Enoka; sister Iris Eluwene (Joseph) Abreu; his last Aunty Ikela Keohuloa; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held privately by family members.

Januardo V. Ballesteros
Januardo V. Ballesteros, 82, of Kapaa, passed away on Feb. 26,2020. He was born in Claveria, Cagayan, Philippines on Aug. 18, 1937, and did construction and landscaping work in the Philippines and Kauai.
He is survived by his wife Norma Ballesteros; son Joseph (Nita) Ballesteros in P.I.; daughters, Mency (Robert) Ramos in P.I., Angelin (Julius) Castro on Kauai, Marites Ballesteros in H.K., Shiella (Barry) Carinio on Kauai, Angelica Ballesteros in P.I.; grandchildren, Rochie Mae, Ryan and Rick Mark Ramos, Daphne Jean, Desiree Jean and Josephine Ballesteros, Julianne, Jericho and Julius Jr. Castro, Frans Kevin Pangilinan, Andrei Ballesteros, Aiesya and Anica Carinio.
A celebration of Januardo’s life will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. with services to follow at 10 a.m.

Mildred ‘Millie’ P. Abreu
Mildred “Millie” P. Abreu, of Koloa, passed away on Feb. 25, 2020, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 88. Born on Sept. 15, 1931, Kauai, she was a retired L.P.N. at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Marie Pereira; husband William Abreu; brothers, Alvin and Jack Pereira.
She is survived by her son Russell (Opal) Abreu; daughters, Pam (Dusty) Parubrub, Christine (Harold) Kilborn; brothers, Herb (Janice) Pereira, Leroy (Jeannie) Pereira; sisters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Mayfield; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2020, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. Service at 10:30 a.m. at the Church at Koloa “Old Koloa Church” 3269 Poipu Road. There will be a burial to follow at church cemetery.

Nellie May Wong Hookano
Nellie May Wong Hookano slipped away peacefully at home during the evening of Feb. 28, 2020, surrounded by family. She was 93 years old. She was born in Honolulu the sixth of ten children to Mary Paea and Gregory Ahuna Wong.
She was a proud member of the Wong Lineage, Hookano ‘Ohana and Nunies ‘Ohana. Once a city girl, family life began in Kekapua Valley and Pakala on the island’s west side where she embedded herself into plantation living learning life lessons of rural Kauai. Later she moved to Kalaheo where she resided for 58+ years. She lived a full life filled with hardship and tears as well as joy and laughter. All-the-while Nellie loved the Hawaiian art of Hula and shared her passion with everyone around her.
She influenced many throughout her life while working with Catholic Youth Organization in Kauai’s four catholic schools, the County of Kauai in the parks and recreation and welfare departments then finally with the State of Hawaii in the Visitor Information Booth of the Lihue Airport. All who knew her called her “Auntie Nellie.”
She leaves behind children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews both biological and hanai too numerous to name.
Mahalo nui to the Angels of Hospice who helped guide her travel to the end of life’s journey. Their professionalism and compassion help those who go on ahead as well as those who remain behind.
A mass will be celebrated for Aunty Nellie at Holy Cross Church on April 24, 2020. Visitation is at 8:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Please “No Koden” (monetary donations). She will later be interred with papa Sonny at the Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Mahalo to Kauai Memorial Gardens for their caring and supportive assistance.
Harry Nelson Ritter
Harry Nelson Ritter died peacefully in his sleep and went home to Jesus on March 11, 2020.
He will be missed by his wife Evelyn; his daughter Kimberly (Bruce); daughter Victoria (Milt), daughter Bethany (Christian); son Curt (Diane), daughter Amy (Brian); grandchildren, Monique, Cory, Jacob, Bailey, Jackson, Mat; sisters, Patricia Kopmann, Kathryn Stillwell; nieces and nephews.
Private family services were held.
