WAIPOULI — Funny ladies will be at Trees Lounge in Waipouli Friday, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 9.
Promoter Erika Swartzkopf and her Female Comics of Hawaii will be performing 8 to 10 p.m. both nights. Cover charge is $12.
“I am excited to bring our Wahine Comedy Festival back to Kauai for another year,” Swartzkopf said.
The festival will feature female comics from three different islands. Na Hoku 2017 best comedy album winner Brandi Morgan, a Navy veteran, headlines the lineup for this annual road show.
Swartzkopf said her hope is to help grow the comedy scene on Kauai, which isn’t exactly known for being a barrel of laughs.
“The thing is to bring comedy there, to inspire you all to create a scene like we have done on Oahu that last eight years,” she said. “I’m still beating the drums for Kauai people to start their scene. I’m not giving up.”
One of the things Swartzkopf loves about comedy is, in a sense, it opens lines of communication.
She likes how genuine comedians can be — how they put themselves out there.
“I like how sometimes you can talk about things that other people can’t. I like how true it is,” she said.
The best part, though, is when a comedian gets hundreds of people laughing at the same time.
“That’s powerful,” Swartzkopf said. “Super powerful.”
