NAWILIWILI — Ralph Suniga had just finished a day’s round of golf, but came rolling into the specially designed area at the Timbers Hokuala golf club Sunday.
“I just played a full round,” Suniga said, joining his golf buddies at the lounge acquired by Alex Pascual during the Kauai Kane Wear Pink Whiskey and Tee event coordinated by the Hokuala team.
The Whiskey and Tee event utilized an area not normally utilized for golf play and attracted about a hundred people to the fundraiser coordinated between the American Cancer Society and the Ocean Course at Hokuala.
“There is always an overwhelming amount of support for our breast cancer survivors, and our efforts to attack cancer from every ange,”’ said Patti Ornellas, senior community development manager. “We sold through seven lounges, each allowing up to 10 people, and at least 20 individual participants. People are excited to experience this new format…it’s golf without the long day. Hokuala has such a beautiful facility here in Lihue, and what is great about this event is you don’t have to be a golfer to experience it. This is more about the socializing, the camaraderie, and to raise awareness about breast cancer.”
Addison Bulosan, one of the lounge buyers, took some time to join the live entertainment duo of Frank Cruz and Alberto Genovia as the day’s slate of games was unveiled by Kellie Hines, PGA head golf professional, and her staff.
Some of those games included Closest to the Pin.
“One of the beautiful things about this event is that it doesn’t take the entire day,” Ornellas said. “We’re done in two hours.”
