Kaisa Kahanuolamaikahikina Hesapene Uehara Gramberg
Kaisa Kahanuolamaikahikina Hesapene Uehara Gramberg passed away at home on Oct. 19, 2019, at the age of 47 days. She was born on Sept. 2, 2019, in Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother Caroline Ho‘opi‘i, great-grandfather Magua Hesapene, and grand-uncles Dean and Kenneth Hesapene.
She is survived by loving parents Nawaimakaonamauna Gramberg of Waimanalo and Kacie’lin Hesapene of Hanapepe, great-great-grandmother Marion Gramberg of Waimanalo, great-great-grandfather George Gramberg of Molokai, grandparents Chuck and Tammy-Jean Uehara of Haiku, Maui, aunties Shalysse (Chuck) Kidd of Haiku, Maui, and Sammy Wada of Hawaii Kai, uncles Jarvis Iokepa of Waimanalo, Iakona (Miranda) Iokepa of San Diego, Naholowa‘a Gramberg of Oahu, Kaimana Uehara of Haiku, Maui, cousins Sayde and Chayden Iokepa of San Diego, great-grandfather Alberto “Sonny” Ho‘opi‘i of Kekaha, great-grandmother Corazon Hesapene of Kekaha, grandparents David and Camille Hesapene of Hanapepe, uncles Kelsey (Emilie Bierly) Hesapene of Kekaha, David Jr “Junah” (Hollianne Naka‘ahiki) Hesapene of Pakala, cousins Teiva, Talen, Ekolu Hesapene and Hailey Niau, numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and friends, and the “Toots Ohana.”
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at MacArthur Park (Kekaha Beach Park) in Kekaha, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and service to follow.
Van Martinez Ruaboro
Van Martinez Ruaboro, 80, of Kilauea, passed away at Garden Isle Healthcare & Rehabilitation on Sept. 13, 2019. He was born on March 22, 1939, in Kilauea, and retired from Hanalei Bay Resort as a ground maintenance person.
He was preceded in death by parents Victorio Ruaboro and Salome Martinez Ruaboro, and brothers Ricardo Ruaboro, Javis Ruaboro and Genciano Ruaboro.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Amelia Ruaboro of Kilauea, son Melvan Ruaboro of Oahu, grandsons Stephvan Ruaboro, Nathan Ruaboro and Victorio Ruaboro, all of Oahu, brother Feliciano (Pilar) Ruaboro of Kilauea, sister Carmen (Jaime) Jimenez of Kilauea, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Catherine Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Dwayne Linn ‘Manny’ Fernandez
Dwayne Linn “Manny” Fernandez, 67, of Kekaha, passed away on Oct. 5, 2019. He was born Sept. 11, 1952 in Honolulu, Oahu to Andres and Winona Fernandez. He began his career at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands as a firefighter with the Crash Fire Rescue crew.
He was preceded in passing by his father Andy, sister Maynette, and brother Kiley.
He is survived by wife Kim Ryan, daughters Ryann Mailani (Aaron) and Paige Keana, grandchildren Tyson Vaika Mailani and Khloe Amaya Paige, mother Winona (Robert), sisters Gigi (Charlie) Bohn and Stacey (Steven) Rivera, nephew Kiv Rivera, niece Kira Rivera, nephew Chase Bohn, niece Kaylee Fernandez, niece La‘akela Fernandez, uncle Pelane Fernandez, countless family members of the Fernandez clan, an immeasurable amount of friends, softball teammates, and many more.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Raphael Church, 3011 Hapa Rd., in Koloa, with visitation from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m. and ohana-style lunch to follow.
The family requests casual or aloha attire and that flowers be omitted, though fresh lei are welcome.
Susan Lanette Uchida
Susan Lanette Uchida, 76, of Lihue, passed away on May 14, 2019, at Wilcox Medical Center.
She was born in Modesto, California, on Oct. 23, 1942, and retired as a professor and Business Education Division chair with the University of Hawaii, Kauai Community College, after 34 years. In 2008, the UH Board of Regents awarded her the distinction of professor emeritus.
She was preceded in death by parents Edwin and Betty Hoatson.
She is survived by husband Alvin Uchida, brother Mark (Phyllis) Hoatson and sister Jennifer Hoatson, all of California, and nephew Jeffery Hoatson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Lihue Christian Church social hall. Visitation with the family will be at 11:30 a.m., with an informal luncheon and remembrance at noon.
Kauai Memorial Garden is assisting the family with arrangements.
