A free teen health camp is set for 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Kauai High School.
Medical students from the John A. Burns School of Medicine, health professions students, and community health partners want to spend the day showing students what they actually do.
Middle and high school students are invited to spend the day participating in healthcare activities.
Workshops include:
• Casting Call — Make a mess while you put an actual cast on another participant.
• Stitch It Up — Use real medical tools to suture a deep gash on a life-like arm!
• Local Grindz — Find out what’s really in your food.
• Infectious Disease — What are your chances of getting Zika?
• Clinical Skills — You be the doctor! Use the tools physicians use everyday to check heart rate and reflexes.
The camp is hosted by JABSOM Medical Students, HI/Pacific Basin Area Health Education Center, Na Pua No‘eau, Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence, Health Careers Opportunity Program, the Hawaii Science Career Inspiration Program, Na Lei Wili AHEC, and Kauai High School Health Academy.
