LIHUE — Kauai High School sharpshooters Kierstyn Bukoski and Kalen Konishi copped high-point honors over the field of four teams competing in the Kauai High School air riflery matches that were contested at the Island School range, and at the Kapaa High School range.
Bukoski fired 97 points — just three digits shy of 100 — in the prone position, 83 points in the kneeling, and 80 points in the standing position for 260 points total.
She topped the Red Raider ladies who took a 1,207 to 914 win over the Island School girls at the Puhi campus facility where passing showers delayed shooting between the standing and kneeling positions.
Francesca Bivens (95-65-72-232) had high point honors for the Voyager women who fielded just four sharpshooters against the five allowed for the team.
On the boys’ range, Kauai High School’s Kalen Konishi (95-91-85-271) topped the Red Raider effort that took the match 1,278 to 1,188 points over the Island School men who got high point honors from Tiago Morgado (93-83-72-248) whose dad, Kauai High School athletic director Keli‘i Morgado was relishing his schedule that allowed him a break to watch his son.
Over at the Kapaa High School range, the Menehune took its series over Kapaa when the wahine, led by Menehune Kieran Canavan (89-85-82) with 256 points, finished with a 1,213 to 1,028 victory over the Warrior wahine sharpshooters. Kapaa’s effort was led by Keana Dolino (88-72-73-233).
Bergen Ceballos took the lead for the Menehune men with 235 (88-77-85) points in its 1,216 to 1,104 victory over the Warriors who got 235 (88-59-88) points from Kyler Napoleon.
The next KIF air riflery matches take place Wednesday when Kauai, currently leading the league, travels to the Kapaa High School range with the first rounds scheduled to go at 5 p.m. The Voyagers make the trek to the Clem Gomes Gym to face the Menehune with the first rounds scheduled to start at 3:30, or 4 p.m.
