KEKAHA — At St. Theresa School in Kekaha, “’Ohana matters!” and this was clearly evident on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 when the St. Theresa school ohana came together to enjoy a fun and sweet celebration in honor of Grandparent’s Day.
The annual Grandparent’s Day ice cream social was hosted by the STS Parent Association Board. 135 St. Theresa School learners along with their families, staff and faculty enjoyed over 300 cups of yummy Super Duper ice cream personally served with a smile by none other than westside business owner and former STS teacher Lisa Johnson. The PA Board set up several ice cream topping stations on the front lawn so families could create their own delicious sundaes.
As families enjoyed their cool ice cream treat, PA Board Chair Theresa Garza led everyone through a special trivia game where the key to winning a prize was for learners to know interesting facts about their grandparent — for example, their favorite artist, which president was in office when they were growing up and their grandparent’s birth year.
There was also a “dance off” so learners could teach their grandparents a current dance move and then it was the grandparents turn to show off their dance moves to the learners. The “dance off” was a great way for everyone to get up and move after enjoying the delicious Super Duper ice cream.
Finally, families were able to bring home a complimentary photo with their grandparents thanks to the SmileLab photo booth, owned and run by STS parents Julian and Addy Gilliam, who generously donated the photo booth service and pictures for the special occasion.
“The nearest thing to the love of God is the love of grandparents,” St. Theresa School officials quote, and we at St. Theresa School are thankful for all the wonderful grandparents who are part of our school ‘ohana. Happy Grandparent’s Day 2019 to All!
