WAIPOULI — An American Medical Response ambulance only briefly interrupted the opening ceremonies Thursday at the Wilcox Health Kauai Medical Clinic Kapaa facilities in Kauai Village.
The Kapaa clinic has been operating since July 30 after relocating from its former location in the Kapaa Shopping Center, but the public opening ceremonies and open house were already scheduled.
“Our new Kapaa clinic is nearly four times the size of the previous location,” said Jen Chahanovich, president and CEO of Wilcox Medical Center and CEO of Kauai Medical Clinic.
“It provides more space to support more patients, and allows us some room to grow. This aligns well with our mission to create a healthier Hawaii by providing greater access to medical care and services when and where our patients need it.”
The new, 7,900-square-foot clinic features 16 exam rooms, one procedure room, a triage room, and a large waiting and reception area.
Family medicine physician Dr. Tracey Richardson, previously at the other location, and the staff of eight people make their home in the new clinic that is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The team has expanded to include additional staff, and a new primary-care physician, Dr. Sierra Pena, who joined KMC recently.
Services available include family medicine, including pediatric patients, visiting OB-GYN and cardiology specialists, and laboratory services provided by Clinical Labs of Hawaii.
Wilcox Health, which includes Wilcox Medical Center and clinics across Kauai, is part of Hawaii Pacific Health, one of the state’s largest health-care systems.
