POIPU — Kiara Ruiz was named All Around Cowgirl following the Kauai All Girls Rodeo Association event that wrapped up last Sunday at the CJM Country Stables in Poipu.
Following low finishes in the barrel racing and pole bending events, Ruiz rebounded to take the top spot in steer undecorating with a 6.31 second average on two gos, edging out Coralyn Murayama by a mere .28 second average.
Ruiz continued her climb with a third place finish in the breakaway roping event, posting an 18.51 average on two gos, and iced the overall honor by heading for Debbie Bail for a solid second place finish in the dally team roping event with a 39.42 average on two gos. She topped the honor by heading for Janey Low to post a 19.11 go on a single run.
Casera Silva, named the Reserve All Around Cowgirl for the rodeo, held off a strong challenge by Coryssa Silva for the honor.
Casera finished tops in the barrel racing, edging out Coryssa by a mere .08 second with her 18.336 go. Coryssa came back to nail the pole bending event on a 21.737 while relegating Casera to the second D aboard Twister for a 23.774 go.
Casera came back to nail third place in the steer undecorating event on a 7.31 average on two gos, and sealed the deal by heeling for Cora Murayama in the dally team roping event and capturing the top spot on a 29.35 average on two gos.
