POIPU — Niki Upson of Princeville will partner with Jessica Hreljac of Lihue when the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association hosts the Mixed Team Championship this weekend at the Poipu Bay Golf Course.
Jaydon Kyono of Kalaheo will be teaming with Kiara Johnson of Lihue for the second Kauai pair in the tournament featuring 16 teams of one boy and one girl teeing off from 11 a.m. Saturday.
Tournament play will have teams playing Four Ball (best ball) format on Saturday, and Foursomes (alternate shot) on Sunday. The boys, playing in the 13-18 age group, will play to Par 72 at 6,610 yards while the girls, also in the 13-18 age group, will play to Par 72 at 6,318 yards.
Among the other players in the field include Noah Koshi of Pearl City, Oahu partnering with Katrina Huang of Honolulu, Koshi being the top ranked HSJGA Boys 15-18 player in 2018.
Lacey Uchida of Hilo, finishing 2018 with a No. 2 HSJGA ranking for Girls 15-18, will be partnering with Jake Sequin of Honolulu who finished 2018 with a No. 4 HSJGA ranking for Boys 15-18, and Karissa Kilby of Honolulu, finishing with the No. 3 HSJGA ranking for Girls 15-18, will be partnering with Aidan Oki of Hilo (No. 16 HSJGA 2018 Boys 15-18).
Isaiah Kanno of Hilo, currently the HSJGA No. 1 Player of the Year ranking for the Boys 15-18 will be partnering with Chanelle Hwang, also of Hilo, currently ranked No. 40 HSJGA Player of the Year Girls 15-18.
Kyono finished 2018 with a No. 21 HSJGA ranking for Boys 15-18, slipping past Deven Kimoto by less than two points. Hreljac is currently ranked No. 38 HSJGA Player of the Year Girls 15-18 after finishing 2018 in a tie for No. 39.
