KEKAHA — A structure fire broke out early Saturday morning on the corner of Alae and Kekaha roads in Kekaha.
No injuries were reported.
Waimea firefighters were dispatched to the scene about 4:30 a.m. to find part of a single-story, unoccupied structure, about 30 feet by 40 feet, engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, but soon discovered that the fire had extended into the building’s stud walls.
Personnel from the Hanapepe and Lihue fire stations arrived on scene to provide additional assistance, using forcible entry to access the structure’s interior.
After the walls were cleared of the fire extension, personnel extinguished a smoldering tree and bush which were adjacent to the building.
All personnel cleared the scene about 7 a.m.
Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly $11,500.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
