LIHUE The Natural Resources Conservation Service, East and West Kauai Soil and Water Conservation Districts and University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources Cooperative Extension Service are holding a free workshop for livestock managers and farmers who are interested in learning more about deep and dry litter livestock systems, and NRCS financial assistance.
LIHUE — The Natural Resources Conservation Service, East and West Kauai Soil and Water Conservation Districts and University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture & Human Resources’ Cooperative Extension Service are holding a free workshop for livestock managers and farmers who are interested in learning more about deep and dry litter livestock systems, and NRCS financial assistance.
The meeting is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kauai Community College in the Learning Resource Center Building room 130.
These systems can be used on a variety of livestock. The workshop will include guest speaker Joanna Nobriga from Double D Ranch on Hawaii Island explaining the benefits and implementation of deep and dry litter systems, along with her success stories and processes of harvest to harvest with her pigs.
CTAHR Livestock Extension Agent Savannah Katulski and the Lihue Field Office staff will explain the NRCS programs and financial assistance.
The NRCS is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that provides technical assistance to farmers and other private landowners and managers. They also have various programs that can provide financial assistance to farmers who qualify.
The soil and water conservation districts have been serving Kauai since 1953 with ongoing projects and educational outreach.
