Silva holds off Medeiros challenge

POIPU — Two points separated Casera Silva and Kim Medeiros following the most recent Kauai All Girls Rodeo Association event, Sunday at the CJM Country Stables in Poipu where Casera emerged as All Around Cowgirl.

Battling through five events, Casera held off Medeiros’ challenge in the 3D Barrel Racing by copping top honors in the first D on an 18.116 go, challenged by Medeiros finishing second aboard two horses — Missy at 18.267, and Lehua at 18.628.

Casera continued to build on the gap by finishing second in the 3D Pole Bending to her sister Coryssa who copped the event on a 22.537 go to Casera’s 23.147 run.

Medeiros didn’t show in the Pole Bending event, but came back for a fourth finish in the Breakaway Roping on an 18.99 average on two go’s.

Another strong matchup same in the Steer Undecorating event where Casera took the event on a 4.46 average on two go’s to Medeiros’ challenge, finishing second on a 5.7 average on two go’s.

Medeiros came back in the Dally Team Roping where she heeled for Kristyn Vasconcelles to end in second place on a 9.79 run on a single go. Casera heeled for Marti Snyder to finish fourth on a 15.49 run on a single go to claim the All Around Cowgirl honor.

Kauai All Girls Rodeo Association takes a break for the Koloa Plantation Days rodeo that starts July 19 at 4:30 p.m. for three days of rodeo action at the CJM Country Stables where KAGRA riders will open the Grand Entry announcing the Paniolo Heritage theme.

KAGRA resumes its rodeo on Aug. 18 starting with the Grand Entry at 10 a.m.
