County should limit Niihau development
I wonder if people know that a helicopter ferries big-game hunters to Niihau where some African animals were imported so “Big Game Hunting” attracts tourism? $10,000 per person is what I understand is charged. These must be the people who the helicopter company is trying to please with a building, etc? I hope the council puts Hawaiians first and demands that these illegal constructions will be removed and the whole operation of helicopters is limited to the airport in Lihue.

This letter writer is one seriously misinformed individual. Seriously. Robinson’s have done more to preserve old Hawaii than any family, government, OHA, DHHL and County combined. Plus preserving plants and water…..learn a bit
I wonder if Judith Fernandez of Kapa’a knows anything about Ni’ihau. Apparently not. The helicopter ferrying hunters to Ni’ihau is owned by the owners of the island. It was purchased and is paid for at great cost in order to provide emergency evacuation of ailing Ni’ihau residents to Kaua’i hospitals so that they don’t have to take the WW2 landing craft which takes hours to cross the channel to get to emergency medical facilities on Kaua’i. Hunting safaris are a means to help with, but not completely, offset the cost of maintaining this emergency air transport with professional pilot that is provided at no cost to the islanders. Interesting that Ms. Fernandez has such a problem with that that she’d write a letter here. She must have other issues on her agenda to make such ugly and misinformed statements regarding a situation about which she obviously knows little.

Judith…what an ignorant letter. Pull your head out of the sand, or wherever i happens to be stuck, and get your facts straight BEFORE attacking someone. Niihau Helicopters is NOT the company seeking to expand the Port Allen buildings.
