Da Shadow: Vidinha Stadium, Shipwreck’s

w Editor’s note: Old-timers might still remember the introduction from “The Shadow” radio program: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as Da Shadow, since 2004 has been meeting with government representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.

Vidinha Stadium (KPAL Building)

What is the status of efforts to remove the old cement footings with exposed metal screws that appear to have been for an old gas or propane tank outside of the building?

The site is being reevaluated to be repaired to be made safe for everyone.

Shipwreck’s Beach

Does this area fall under the county’s jurisdiction? If so, could the county look into replacing the shower at this facility? If not, who should this be requested of?

The Shipwreck Beach parking lot is under the County of Kauai jurisdiction. The comfort station is under control and maintenance of the Hyatt. Please see the Hyatt’s community liaison for assistance. The number for the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is 742-1234.
