Fire burns 2,100 acres; power restored

Fire officials estimate that roughly 2,100 acres have burned since a brush fire broke out in Kokee Sunday morning.

While the majority of the blaze has been contained, the fire continues due to limited access to the rough terrain, according to a county press release.

KIUC said Tuesday morning it has restored power to roughly 115 meters in Koke‘e, which were de-energized on Sunday afternoon in support of the safety of firefighting efforts.

KIUC personnel found minor damage to some lines and poles, according to a press release.

Access to Kokee is limited to Waimea Canyon Drive, which was reopened Monday night. Koke‘e Road was closed at least through Tuesday.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Anyone with information is urged to call Police Dispatch at 241-1711.
