The world that welcomed guests beyond the public call box sprawled out on the expanse of the ballroom at the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club.

About 1,100 guests attended the first Kauai comic convention coordinated by Aaron and Natsumi Yamasato.

Fans of comic books, gaming, and technology were treated to aisles of displays, demonstrations, and seminars featuring comic greats such as Ban Daisuke, known as Kikaida, Sifu Mimi Chan, a model for Disney’s Mulan, Carl Potts, the Marvel DC Comic creator, Night Darling, a Hawaii cosplay princess, and artists Hiroshi Hanatani and Derick Fabian.

Blogger Nicole Laeno led a dance workshop. The cosplay contest— for keiki and a separate one for adults — highlighted the day of fun and excitement in the fantasy world.
