HONOLULU — Gov. David Ige left for Vail, Colorado, Saturday, to attend the Western Governors’ Association’s 2019 annual meeting today through Wednesday, June 12.
The governor, who is the WGA chairman, will give opening remarks, moderate a roundtable session on biosecurity and invasive species, and attend meetings, discussions and events.
On June 12, Ige travels from Colorado to Washington, D.C., for Council of Governors meetings. The council consists of 10 governors from across the country, appointed by the president. Ige serves as co-chair with Gov. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas.
The council serves to address matters pertaining to the National Guard, homeland defense and defense support to civil authorities.
While the governor travels, Attorney General Clare Connors will serve as acting governor from today. Lt. Gov. Josh Green will then serve as acting governor from Monday, June 10, until Ige’s return to Hawaii on Sunday, June 16.
