Whale carcass beaches at Kealia
KEALIA — Kauai Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau officials closed Kealia Beach to swimming until further notice due to a whale carcass that washed ashore Saturday morning.
Officials are advising no swimming as a safety precaution. Signs have been posted, and lifeguards are monitoring the area and warning beachgoers to stay out of the water.
State Department of Land and Natural Resources officials responded to the scene.
The carcass was reported to be very decomposed.
The beach will remain closed until at least this morning when lifeguards will reassess if it can be reopened.
