LIHUE — A truck collided with an Island School bus on Monday afternoon in Kapaa. None of the students on the bus were injured.
A black truck was traveling southbound on Kuhio Highway when it struck a northbound school bus and two vehicles behind the bus, according to a statement by a Kauai County spokesperson.
An Island School employee who answered the phone about 4 p.m. said the bus had been routed to the North Shore when it was involved in a “fender bender” near the Kapaa bypass. The employee confirmed that no students were injured and said the passengers were waiting to be picked up by another school bus.
Two individuals in the other vehicles reported non-life threatening injuries but did not require further treatment, the county spokesperson said in an email.
A photo apparently taken from inside the bus was posted on social media a couple hours after the incident and showed a black Toyota truck with a crumpled front end turned sideways in the road behind the bus between two other vehicles.
