HONOLULU More than 200 students from Kauai, Maui, Hawaii and Oahu will converge at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii on Tuesday for a free half-day educational program that brings volunteer experts in traditional Japanese arts and culture to a single location.
HONOLULU — More than 200 students from Kauai, Maui, Hawaii and Oahu will converge at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii on Tuesday for a free half-day educational program that brings volunteer experts in traditional Japanese arts and culture to a single location.
Presented by the Japan-America Society of Hawaii, “Japan Day” helps to reinforces school curricula through hands-on activities in traditional Japanese arts and culture, including bon dance, calligraphy and karate. Following the morning program, students will learn about Japanese immigrant history through a private gallery tour at JCCH.
Held twice a year, Japan Day is JASH’s longest running Japanese cultural program that is offered free to Hawaii schools. Since its inception in 1993, over 6,500 students from 65 different public and private high schools have participated in this educational event.
