KOKEE — The forests of Hawaii lost a great friend and protector Marsha Erickson, former executive director of Hui o Laka, died Nov. 12.
“As the executive director for 27 years Marsha made huge contributions to Kokee Natural History Museum and renovated the historic CCC Camp,” said a press release. “She expanded the museum creating exhibits and spearheaded the Banana Poka RoundUp a forest education fair and the Eo E Emalani I Alaka’i, Hui o Laka’s beloved Emalani Festival.”
In 2001, Erickson began Kokua Kokee a program designed to liberate native plants from invasive species.
On Saturday, the Kokee Museum will host a work day in her honor.
