WAIMEA — Waimea High School’s varsity softball team won both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against Kauai High School at Waimea Canyon Park.
Waimea (2-2 KIF) won the first game in five innings, 26-1, and then beat Kauai in the second game, 15-6.
In the first game, Waimea got 26 runs on 18 hits. Leiko Yamauchi hit a three-RBI home run in the first inning, and Kalea Huihui-Caberto had a two-RBI home run in the fourth inning.
Kauai had one run on six hits. Leinoe Bumanglag-Padilla crossed home plate from third as Kassidie Bukoski grounded to shortstop in the first inning.
In the second game, Waimea totaled 15 runs on 16 hits. Makeyah Wisneski knocked a two-RBI home run in the fifth inning and a three-RBI home run in the sixth inning.
Kauai (1-4 KIF) got six runs on eight hits. Bumanglag-Padilla hit a solo home run in the third inning, and Dreanalynn Tafiti knocked a three-RBI homer in the sixth inning.
Kauai will host Kapaa (3-0 KIF) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Isenberg Park.
Waimea will play at Kapaa High School for a doubleheader Saturday. The first game is scheduled for 10 a.m.
