HONOLULU — The state Department of Labor & Industrial Relations on Friday announced that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for January was 2.7 percent, compared to the revised rate of 2.6 percent in December.
Statewide, 658,500 were employed and 18,000 unemployed in January, for a total seasonally adjusted labor force of 676,500. Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4 percent in January, compared to 3.9 percent in December.
Kauai’s unemployment rate for January was 3 percent, up from 2.3 in December and 2.2 percent in January 2018.
Initial claims increased by eight, or 0.5 percent, while weeks claims decreased by 1,191 or 14.3 percent for unemployment benefits compared to one year ago. Over-the-month, both initial claims and weeks claims increased by 22.6 percent and 2.6 percent, respectively, in January 2019.
2.7% unemployment. Not working. The ones that are working or actively looking for work are the seasonal or permanent full time or part time workers. Do you fit into the full time work? I never thought our previous mayor fit into full time category. So I assumed he was a seasonal employment guy. That is funny though. He making decisions for us? I never did go by the fact that a dumber male can run a community. I always was with that rule of thumb. Weren’t you? I know I was with that rule all the way.
