KAPAA — The Wailua-Kapaa Neighborhood Association will recognize Kapaa resident Marj Dente, the February winner of the association’s Neighborhood Pride Award, at 2 p.m. today at the Kapaa Public Library.
Dente, a Waipouli Road resident for three decades, planned and planted a beautiful roadside hedge, about 35-feet long, along her property.
“This was quite an accomplishment for this already busy lady who was a founding member of Kauai’s community radio station, KKCR, and who still serves on its board,” according to a press release.
“It is not uncommon to see this busy octogenarian down on all fours, weeding around her hedge — wearing her duct-taped shoes and garden gloves — all the while, taking time to smile and wave at any and all passersby. Marj takes great pride in her neighborhood, and it shows,” the release said.
Nominations for beautiful front yards in the 96746 zip code can be sent to Carol Volker, awards chair, at carolonkauai@hawaiiantel.net. The only criteria is that residents must do the gardening themselves.
The W-KNA meeting is free and open to the public.
