Yukie-Lynn Nalani DeSilva

Yukie-Lynn Nalani DeSilva of Kapaa passed away at Queen’s Medical Center on Jan. 26, 2019, at the age of 48. Born on Dec.7, 1970, she was an advertising sales assistant for The Garden Island newspaper and an active CrossFitter at Kauai CrossFit.

She was preceded in death by father Yukio Higashi, brothers-in-law Alan and Shannon DeSilva, and sister-in-law LynetteMeatoga.

She is survived by husband of 29 years Kevin DeSilva, daughter Moana (Chris) Baltazar, son Dustyn (Michaela Manago) DeSilva,hanai son Kalani Kahaunaele, mother Olinda Higashi, sisters Maile (Jonah) Cummings and Anolani (Kelo Rivera) Higashi,brothers Gordon (Danice) Higashi, Alvin (Deborah) Higashi, Dean (Mel) Higashi, Blaine Kaneholani and Kenny (Kana Kaohi)Meatoga, in-laws Wayne and Rita DeSilva, brother-in-law Travis (Lisa) DeSilva, and grandchildren Cijay, Cyris, Christyn andChloey Baltazar.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 9, at Anahola Beach Park, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services to follow.

Glicerio ‘Cerio’ Batrina Morden Sr.

Glicerio “Cerio” Batrina Morden Sr., 90, of Puhi, passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on Feb. 12, 2019. He was born in San Patricio, Santa Maria, Pangasinan, Philippines, on Aug. 28, 1928, and was the proprietor of Green Island Taxi.

He is survived by wife Alejandra Morden, children Gener (Carlina) Morden, Rina (Lawrence) Cheung, Gally (Catherine) Morden, Jun (Edna) Morden, Gaudencio (Debra) Morden and Alma (Edwin) Oligo, 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister Presca Manuel, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 8, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bruce Lawrence Schendel

Bruce Lawrence Schendel, 61, died on Aug. 23, 2018, peacefully at his home in Lihue.

He was born in Houston on June 2, 1957, to Winfred Schendel and Joanne Wiiest Schendel.

He was a master salesman. Selling ice to the Alaskans was not a problem.

He will be missed by wife Karla Schendel, parents Win and Joanne, brother Víctor (Candy) Schendel of Ft. Collins, Colorado, sister Rachelle (Keith) Brownrigg of Littleton, Colorado, and numerous nieces, great nieces and nephews, and a magnitude of friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Margrete Schendel Gassner and John and Etta Wiiest, and his uncle Rodney.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Hokuala Golf Club (formerly the Kauai Lagoons).

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
