Kauai High School senior Akira Williams just missed on placing in the top three of two events on the final day of the 2019 K. Mark Takai Swimming & Diving Championships over the weekend.
Williams garnered a fourth-place finish in the boys 100-yard freestyle and a sixth-place finish in the boys 50-yard freestyle on Saturday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
In the 50 freestyle final, Williams timed in a 21.67 seconds — just faster than his preliminary time of 21.68 seconds. Kalani High School senior Kaiko Hokama-Decker won the event with a time of 21.36 seconds.
In the 100 freestyle final, Williams recorded a time of 46.92 seconds. His preliminary time was 46.77 seconds. Hokama-Decker won the event with a time of 46.55 seconds.
In the boys 400-yard freestyle relay, Kauai High School placed eighth out of eight with a time of 3:27.26. The team’s preliminary time was 3:25.93. The team members were Williams, freshman Ryden Williams, sophomore Kai Norman and senior Luke Roberts.
Punahou won the boys 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:09.33.
On the team rankings, the Kauai High boys team was 14th out of 18 teams with two points. Punahou was first with 66 points.
