Gas prices hold course

Honolulu gas prices paused this past week while some other areas on other islands saw increases of up to 7 cents a gallon, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

Thursday’s statewide average price was $3.26 a gallon, which is the same price as last Thursday, 10 cents lower than a month ago and 13 cents less than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.

Lihue’s average price for regular was $3.51, which is down a penny since last Thursday, 7 cents lower than on this date last month and 12 cents lower than a year ago.

In Honolulu, Thursday’s average price for regular was $3.11, unchanged from last Thursday, 11 cents lower than on this date a month ago and 11 cents lower than on this date last year.

The Hilo average price was $3.27, which is up one cent from last Thursday, 8 cents less than on this date last month and 13 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price is $3.63, which is 7 cents higher than last Thursday, 10 cents lower than on this date last month and 21 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

“The Energy Information Administration’s recent weekly report showed that West Coast gasoline stocks grew by approximately 900,000 barrels to 32.4 million barrels,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “However, stocks are approximately 2.2 million barrels lower than this time last year, which could cause prices to increase if there is a supply challenge in the region this week.”
