Members of the Lions Clubs of Kauai will be manning special collection boxes at six locations from the North Shore to Eleele from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday during the Lions In Sight program where people have an opportunity to give new life to those eyeglasses or sunglasses that are currently not being used.
Lions from the Kauai Lions Club will be collecting used eyewear at the Longs CVS store, Kukui Grove Center near the fountain; East Kauai Lions Club will be in front of the Walmart store; Lions from the Kapaa Lions Club will be in front of the Big Save Times Supermarket at the Kapaa Shopping Center.
The Koloa Lions Club will be greeting shoppers at Sueoka Store in Koloa, and the Lions from the West Kauai Lions will be in front of the Big Save Times Supermarket in the Eleele Shopping Center.
Additionally, the North Shore and select sites, usually optometric service providers, offers year-round collection boxes where the unused eyewear can be deposited.
Once collected, the used eyewear is brought to a central area where they go through a sorting and cleaning process before being shipped off to Lions In Sight locations where people are in need of these eye pieces that are currently not being needed here.
Lions Past District Governor Roy Nishida said during one year’s collection, the cleaned and sorted eyewear were shipped to the Philippines to help people recover from the impact of a damaging typhoon.
Lions In Sight have completed more than 200 clinic missions in 32 countries where more than 200,000 people got help improving their vision and lives.
