Auwe! No ice sculpting demonstration following the Thursday afternoon street fair, as major cracks developed in the block of ice. Chef Wally Nishimura decided it would be too dangerous to proceed despite waiting for a period of time.
In the meantime, visitors settled on photos of the green birds returning to the royal palms to roost, and fireworks kept flowing out of the Erica Kleinfeld shop by the cartloads. Kudos to Josh Pajela and crew for busting their buns through the holidays with all of the tech support for the many live shows and light shows!
Kudos, too, to Elizabeth Freeman and her numerous (!) volunteers who celebrated another year of success at the Festival of Lights — the tourists loved Rudolph the red-nose rooster.
OK, time to switch to New Year’s mode and look for some mochi.
Happy retirement, Daniel Hamada, and congratulations to Tommy John Cox, who takes over as principal at Kapaa High School!
