HANALEI — Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge was closed for several hours Saturday during a flash flood warning for the island of Kauai.
The flash flood warning was later dropped and the road reopened by 5 p.m.
Kauai police and state Department of Transportation officials responded to the scene.
The section of Kuhio Highway between Waikoko and Wainiha was also closed for roughly two hours Saturday morning due to flooding.
The roadway reopened by Saturday afternoon and the convoys resumed on a holiday schedule.
The public is reminded that this area is open to local residents only. Access beyond the Wainiha checkpoint requires a placard issued by the county.
