Da Shadow: Potholes

Editor’s note: Old-timers might still remember the introduction from “The Shadow” radio program: “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as Da Shadow, since 2004 has been meeting with government representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.

When is Omao Road scheduled to be repaved or repaired? The road has numerous large potholes that make it very unsafe for motorists.

Omao Road is considered a minor collector road and is not scheduled for repair at this time. However, the County of Kauai will look into the potholes and will address them.

What is the administration’s plans to fill in the large dip when entering the parking lot at Kealia Beach?

The County of Kauai will coordinate the various departments required to address the pothole along the northern driveway at Kealia Beach, and will aim to have the repairs scheduled in January.

I live in Poipu where we have had over 10 power outages over a 2 day period at the end of this year. I have been told that this is due to KIUCC underestimating usage due to high visitor count in our area. Is this true?
