Michael Scovel has been named the new Kauai Fire Department assistant chief, effective next month.
The announcement was made during the pinning ceremony hosted by the Kauai Fire Department Thursday morning, where a total of 21 promotions were announced. The promotions also take effect next month.
Scovel was pinned with his new badge of office by his son Micah and retired KFD Chief Alejandro Lomosod before an audience of family and friends of the promoted officials that overflowed the Lihue Civic Center Moikeha Building rotunda.
In addition to Scovel, retiring KFD Chief Robert Westerman
announced seven new captains, eight new Firefighter III promotions, and five individuals earning the Firefighter II rank.
Those promoted were congratulated by Mayor Derek Kawakami, who also assisted KFD staff in distributing badges of office to the selected pinning representatives.
Promoted to captain are Ronald Bush, Francisco Garcia, Adam Hussey, Gavin Kennelly, Dane Smith, Timothy Terrazas and Ryan Washburn.
Kamalino Andrade, Kerry Jon Ishikawa, Michael “Imai” Karratti, Jace Schaefer, Jed Smith, Chad Tabuchi, Michael Thompson and Russell Vierra were announced as Firefighter III.
Firefighter II promotions included Micah Contrades, Abraham Mohr, Edward Pananganan, Raymond Keahi and Alan Satta.
Everyone enjoyed fellowship under the festive decorations set up in the courtyard.
