WAIMEA — The Waimea Tree Lighting Festival is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, around Hofgaard Park.
Themed “It’s a Furry Christmas,” the event will feature appearances by the creatures of “Sesame Street,” including Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch.
“We’re having the kupuna from the care homes,” said Penny Young, one of the leaders of the festival. “They love these characters.”
Young said there will be free children’s books, refreshments and entertainment.
Applications for the annual Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade, Saturday, Dec. 15, are available by calling parade chair Esther Estes at 338-1404, or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
