Alison Rosemary Beardsworth ‘Ali’ Koepfgen
Alison Rosemary Beardsworth “Ali” Koepfgen, 59, passed peacefully away on Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at her home in Kekaha, after a valiant fight against cancer.
She was born in Hinckley, United Kingdom, on March 7, 1959, to Molly Brinham Beardsworth and Dr. Brian Smith Beardsworth. She is survived by husband Donald Fred Koepfgen, beloved (90-year-old) parents, brother Jonathon Paul Beardsworth and family of Burbage, United Kingdom, and Isabelle Molly Beardsworth of Petaluma, California, Sheila Joy Woodward of Walsall, United Kingdom, and Dr. Helen Kathryn Howes of Hinckley, United Kingdom, six nephews, four nieces, one grand-nephew, one grand-niece, two uncles and six cousins.
She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Timothy Stephen Beardsworth, grandmother Winifred “Nanny” Violet Brinham, and grandma Alice Smith.
It was fitting she died on Guy Fawkes Night, as she exploded into the family as the third child. In a moment of exasperation at her antics and constant chatter, she said to her mother “Aren’t you glad I wasn’t twins.” She was a unique person and a ball of energy she propelled into her life and in service to others. After high school she attended nursing school in Nottingham, United Kingdom, then travelled and married Don characteristically on Feb. 29, 1988 (leap year) on Kauai. She worked and traveled extensively abroad with her husband until settling back on Kauai. She became an accomplished massage therapist specializing in myofacial/cranial work at Alexander Day Spa for 15 years, and in her own business, Restoration Works.
She loved Kauai and dedicated much of her free time taking care of the aina through volunteering for the Kokee Resource Conservation Program (KRCP), protecting the indigenous flora and fauna of the special place. She had myriad interests including backpacking, exploring, motorcycling with her husband, playing the piano and even completed a solo flight in hang-gliding. She was an avid long-distance runner, completing some 15 marathons over two decades. She gave so much to so many. She was much loved.
A celebration of life will be held at Kokee State Park pavilion near the museum on Kanaloahuluhulu Meadow on Sunday, Nov. 18, beginning at 10:30 a.m. This is a potluck, BYOB, chairs/blankets to see the slide show and participate in open-mic sharing.
