Artist Millicent Cummings shows off the many faces of Millicent, including her first self portrait done when she was 5 years old. Her mom liked the piece so much she framed it, including the “Missy,” as she was known as back then, including the backwards ‘S’s.’ Cummings’ self portraits over the years is part of the exhibit taking place at the Kauai Society of Artists gallery at the Kukui Grove Center through Friday night.

Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. congratulates Ryan Lee of the Hanapepe Youth Baseball Association, left, and Alden Pablo of the Hanapepe Pop Warner Association, right, on a successful Hanapepe’s biggest little carnival.

Kudos to Alden Pablo (Hanapepe Pop Warner Association) and Ryan Lee (Hanapepe Youth Baseball Association) and all the many hands for putting on the Hanapepe’s biggest little carnival that spread out across the Hanapepe Stadium complex over the weekend!

Both Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and the mayoral candidates, Mel Rapozo and Derek Kawakami, found time in their busy schedules to take in some of the fun and enjoy the local style grinds.

Rep. Nadine Nakamura was busy over the weekend, too, joining with some of the parishioners of the All Saints Episcopal Church and Preschool in congratulating the four honorees at the 10th Awards presentation at Na Wahine Alaka‘i O Kauai, presented by the YWCA of Kauai, Friday, and then making The Holy Eucharist with Holy Baptism (kudos to Alessamdra Kahula Grace Newman, and Kylan Teruo Wakuta!) Feast to Mark the Occasion of All Saints Day ending of a Pastoral Relationship with Rev. Ryan Newman who will be leaving to assume a post in the Fresno, California area.

OK, time to go check out the Poipu Food and Wine Festival where Chef Orly Yadao (kudos on winning the Food Network’s Halloween Wars!) is one of the judges for the Market to Menu “Chopped” competition between Chef Esteban Alicea of Merriman’s and Chef Fetulele Taala of the Dolphin Restaurant. That starts at 4 p.m. at The Kauai Culinary Market.
