All bark, no bite
POIPU — The Shops at Kukui‘ula presents the first “Barktoberfest” from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 to raise money for the Kauai Animal Welfare Society.
Barktoberfest will include a dog costume contest and a visit from the dogs of KAWS available for adoption. Participation in the dog costume contest will require pre-registration at Natural Pet Hawaii store in Lihue, plus a $10 entry fee to support KAWS.
“KAWS is honored to be featured at The Shops at Kukui‘ula’s Barktoberfest celebration,” said Dinah Chao, executive director of KAWS. “We will be there with some of our canine KAWS kids and are excited to see everyone enjoying the food, beer, music, and events, while visiting with the dogs. Thank you to The Shops at Kukuiula for sponsoring Barktoberfest 2018.”

While I appreciate KAWS’ dedication to “no kill,” I think it’s just sort of sad that limited financial resources are spread even more thin by having the Humane Society as well as other animal welfare groups. Perhaps if money was used by ONE group more could be done?
