LIHUE — Kapaa High School marksman Michael Rosa finished just two points shy of perfect in the prone position Wednesday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation air rifle final round of the season at the Kapaa High School range.
Rosa’s performance, coupled with 85 points in the standing position and 83 points in the kneeling position, gave him a total 266 points. He tied with Jacob Alvarez (97-81-88-266), the top Kauai High School marksman at the Island School range, and fueled the Kapaa High School boys team to a 1,189-1,147 showing over the Waimea High School boys.
On the other side of the range, Kapaa was limited to just its scoring shooters who edged out Waimea, 1,185-1,168, this week, the Warriors getting the lead from Kiara Dolino (92-74-90-256).
Earlier, the Kapaa girls clinched the KIF title for its division with a win over Kauai High School, last week at the Kauai High School gym.
The Kauai High School boys, similarly took a victory over the Kapaa boys last week to clinch its KIF air rifle title.
This week, the Kauai boys were a 1,265-1,078 winner over the Island School boys, led by Alvarez.
On the girls’ range at Island School, the Kauai High School girls finished an 1,185-1,168 winner over the Voyager women, led by Kelli Okayama (96-78-85-259).
Next for the KIF champion marksmen, the Kauai boys team, the Kapaa girls team, and qualifying individualists travel to the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall on Oahu to participate in the Civilian Marksmanship Hawaii High School Athletic Association air riflery championships on Oct. 23 on Oahu.
