Kauai Island Singers Showcase presents a rare opportunity to meet and work with renowned jazz artist, singer, songwriter and teacher Leonard Patton on Sept. 24 at All Saints Church from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
At the workshop, Patton — who will be on Kauai headlining in the Westin Princeville Wine and Jazz Festival on Sept. 22 — will lead the audience through the wonders of singing and blending in a large group. He’ll also explore vocal freedom, sounds, colors and vocal layering using various techniques developed by Bobby McFerrin.
“With six albums to his credit, Leonard performs regularly and is active in theater and jazz education in the San Diego area,” said Barbara Pendragon, event organizer. “His ability to imitate the sound of various horn and string instruments with his voice is legendary.” Patton is a prodigious performer — in the summer of 2017, the Leonard Patton Group set a new Guinness Record for most performances (70) in 24 hours.
There is a $10 donation at the door.
“Everyone is welcome and invited to participate, come sing with us!” said Melissa Mojo, director of Kauai Island Singers.
